The managing director and chief executive officer of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, inaugurated a simulator and training centre at Jebel Ali Power Plant and Desalination Complex, which was built alongside Siemens, and holds the records of being the Gulf's first project of its kind, as well as the German engineering giant's largest simulator in the world.
Al Tayer said the centre would contribute to consolidating the Emiratisation of engineering and technical jobs at Dewa.
He added: “This is to prepare an Emirati generation capable of leading the energy and water sectors.
"We are committed to the ongoing development of the capabilities of Dewa’s staff, and providing them with the best training programmes to keep them up to date with the latest technologies and the best international standards.”
Executive vice president of generation at Dewa, Nasser Lootah, said the centre's training programmes would include workshops and brainstorming sessions on problem-solving and innovation.
According to a report by UAE state news agency, Wam, the centre will provide theoretical and practical education about the operations, control, and maintenance of power plants, in addition to interactive training on the simulators.
